Since 1996, we’ve been a cherished destination for book lovers, evolving from our origins as Lakeview Books with a military museum to the meticulously organized bookstore you see today. With a rich history, a vast collection, and exciting plans for the future, we’re more than just a bookstore—we’re a place where stories come to life.
Our History
By The Lake Books began its journey as Lakeview Books in 1996. The bookstore has always been located on the main floor, while the basement originally housed a dedicated military museum. Over time, the museum was gradually replaced with book storage to accommodate our growing collection.
With changes in ownership and local development, we lost our "lake view" and transitioned into what is now known as By The Lake Books. Despite these changes, we proudly maintain an impressive military book section and are currently transforming the basement into a "shoppable" backup book area. With three times more space downstairs, the store is truly just the tip of the iceberg!
The Store Today
By The Lake Books has grown into a haven for book lovers, combining charm, organization, and discovery. On the main floor, our collection is comfortably arranged by genre, with books alphabetized by author to make browsing easy and enjoyable.
