At By The Lake Books, we provide practical and straightforward services for book lovers. Whether you're looking to donate books, trade them for store credit, or protect your special editions with our mylar program, we make it easy to give your books a purpose. Learn more about each service below.
Book Donation
If you’re moving, spring cleaning, or simply clearing out space, we welcome your gently used books. Simply box or bag them and bring them to the store. As long as they’re in good condition and not falling apart, we’ll ensure they find a new home. Books we cannot use in-store are donated to local women’s shelters and prisons among others, helping to spread the joy of reading throughout the community.
Book Credit Exchange
Trade your read books for store credit! Bring in your gently used books, and we’ll review your selection. We offer approximately $1 per book in store credit, though values may vary for rare or unique titles. Any books we cannot use can either be donated or returned to you. Store credit is valid for one year from the date it is issued.
Mylar
Protect your special books with our mylar program. Mylar is a durable, transparent polyester film commonly used for archival purposes to safeguard books and documents from wear, moisture, and dust. We offer professional-grade mylar coverings to preserve and protect your treasured editions, ensuring they remain in excellent condition for years to come. This service is ideal for valuable or sentimental books that deserve extra care.
